107

It's been sizzling this week. Today the temperature reached a outrageous 107 degrees and I seriously could have died. The majority of my day was spent at the hospital visiting my older cousin who just gave birth to a freakishly gorgeous baby girl.
(and for me to say a baby is cute really means something because newborns kind of freak me out)

However the most relaxing part of my day was this evening when I finally got to cool off and get in the pool. It's been ages since I actually swam, not just sitting by the side or on a float chatting with my friends but actually for serious swam.

Water.
Is a crucial part of who I am
Being underwater is unlike anything else I have ever experienced.
And simply can't get enough of it.

So I think my fish is dying. He's an adorable royal blue beta named Leopold. I've had him for almost a year, transported him to and from my dorm multiple times, practically brought him back from the dead, and now he is sadly floating around the bottom of his little jar looking like death.

I know one year is a pretty good life for a house fish but its still very upsetting, watching him knowing there is nothing more I can do.

A few years ago my dad killed all of the fish in our pond by mistake. He was adding a bit more water with the garden  hose right before we left to head to my cousin's wedding. Unfortunately, when we returned the next day my father realized he had forgotten to turn off the water before we left and the sudden increase in chlorine killed every single fish. My dad was distraught to say the least. He felt so bad for accidentally murdering all his fish friends.

I know I didn't do anything to harm my fish but I still feel bad. I hate having to sit around and wait for him to kick it.
Needless to say I'm having a pretty crap day.
I hope your holiday weekend has started off better then mine, enjoy the fantastic weather!

summertime

It is the first day of July and the weather outside couldn't be any better. The outrageous humidity of last week is long gone and has been replaced with a cool rough breeze that's reminiscent of spring. I'd die if this weather decided to sick around all summer but no such luck. A sticky holiday weekend and a few 100+ days next week are the only thing in my future.

get your drink on

These Moroccan mint teas have me absolutely drooling. It seems lately I can't get enough of tea, and when I stumbled upon this delectable recipe earlier today I couldn't help but get seriously excited.

2 tbsp. Chinese gunpowder tea or green tea
16 lumps sugar or 1⁄3 cup granulated sugar
1 bunch mint, stems discarded (about 25 sprigs)

1. Place tea, sugar, mint, and 4 cups boiling water in a teapot and stir until sugar dissolves; let sit for 10 minutes.

2. To serve, strain tea into serving glasses.
Serves four to six

I've got hoards of mint growing throughout my yard and every year when summer rolls around I am always at a loss for what to do with it all. I usually end up overloading my homemade lemonade with mint leaves and I'm thrilled to finally have another use for it all.
What do use use mint for?
